Frequently Asked Questions
“Take your broken heart, make it into art” – Carrie Fisher
Where can I see a public monument to a great but overlooked American woman artist?
Currently, nowhere—which is why MSEUM will raise an eight-foot tall bronze memorial statue honoring sculptor Edmonia Lewis. Born in Rensselaer County in 1844, this timeless talent of African/Native American descent decided to be a stone carver, and followed her dream all the way to Rome, becoming the female Bernini. Lewis is renowned and showered with accolades everywhere in the world … except her homeland.
Who were the Cadet Nurse Corps of World War II and why should I care?
American women from all walks of life, who bravely stepped up to serve their country, many of them overcoming discrimination to do so—and to this day, they remain the only people who served who are not accorded official Veteran status?! MSEUM’s sculpture park will bring their chapter of HERstory to life, re-animating six individual members of the Corps for the world to see and celebrate: a long-overdue tribute to ALL healthcare workers.
Together, we can right these two very serious historical wrongs. If each of us will donate to the MSEUM sculpture park mission — even just one dollar! – we will begin to heal thousands of broken hearts. Join us today!
